Honors freshman support Teens for Jeans

English teacher Daria Dewitt and her honors English 9 class recently began collecting jeans as a part of their second annual service project.

While studying the Holocaust and Elie Wiesel through his book “Night,” DeWitt and her class use the opportunity to conduct a project to help people in need. Last year, DeWitt’s class focused on spreading information about the genocides in Africa and around the world. This year, the class has been collecting gently used jeans.

Aeropostale, in partnership with the Do Something organization, runs a campaign to collect jeans for homeless teens. The jeans that DeWitt and her class collect will be sent to local shelters to benefit teens in need in the area.

Dewitt said she couldn’t be happier with the work her freshman students have contributed. She said they have continued to work with the project, even posting information to Facebook despite their already heavy workload.

Anyone wishing to donate jeans can do so until Feb. 8. Simply deliver your gently used “teen sized” jeans to Daria DeWitt in room 508 or to one of her Honors English 9 students.

This was such a fun project! We loved making posters, hanging the jeans, and posting on Facebook. Most of all, we loved that we were helping out people in our community! I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with on this project! :)

Kudos, Teens for Jeans!

Great job, Mrs. De Witt and Honors 9 Class! We really have a great group of kids in Leechburg who share their kindness with others. It is nice to see all of these "acts of kindness" take place.
