The Jr. High School curriculum is designed to meet the needs of students in all major subject areas. Each student is given the opportunity to succeed to the maximum of his / her capability. High achieving students have the opportunity to accelerate in mathematics by taking pre-algebra in grade 7 and beginning a foreign language program in grade 8. All students take classes designed to enhance their computer skills which include keyboarding, computer programming and Internet / Microsoft Word. Their educational experience is enriched through participation in Art, Music, Family and Consumer Sciences, Industrial Arts and Physical Education classes.Students in grades 9 through 12 have the opportunity to enhance their education by taking courses in Science, Mathematics, English, and Social Studies. We also offer honors classes such as Advanced Art, AutoCAD, Video Production, and Computer Technology designed to supplement the students’ course of study. Students may also elect to pursue a technical education by attending Lenape Career Technology Center during their 10th, 11th and 12th grade years. The needs of learning support students are addressed with an inclusion program and a resource room.
The Leechburg Area Jr./Sr. High School curriculum has been aligned to the Pennsylvania State Standards and the district’s strategic plan. We are moving toward alignment with the Common Core Standards recently adopted by the state and the District Comprehensive Plan. It is our goal to educate all of our students to their fullest potential and prepare them for the next step in their life.In addition to the educational programs offered in the brick and mortar environment of Leechburg Jr/Sr High School Building, the district has available a full array of courses that can be completed on line under the supervision of the K-12 Principal. The Leechburg Cyber Academy provides online education courses to meet the needs of all students, from at-risk students who had trouble succeeding in the traditional classroom to high achieving students seeking classes the school cannot provide for them. It is a local, blended learning solution with the mission to provide our educational community with the highest level of flexible and progressive learning options
Please remember that Leechburg offers a seminar period so that students can receive additional academic support from their teachers.
