Leechburg Area School District Special Programs

The Leechburg Area School District employs a full-time school psychologist who also serves as Special Programs Coordinator. This individual coordinates the District's Special Education programs as well as the Instructional Support process and Student Assistance programs. In addition, the District receives the services of an ARIN Intermediate Unit Psychologist for one day of psychological services each week school is in session.

The Leechburg Area School District offers a full continuum of services to students displaying special needs. The District currently operates two and a half (2-1/2) Learning Resource classes (Grades K-2, Grades 3-5) at the elementary level, two (2) classes at the Middle School (Grades 6-8), and one (1) Learning Support program at the High School (Grades 9-12). The district also has one (1) Emotional Support class at the secondary level. 

In addition, the District has a full-time speech pathologist and a half-time hearing support teacher who works with students in Grades K-12. Students displaying outstanding intellectual ability are serviced through the District's Gifted Support Programs. Elementary students are serviced through the "Challenge" Program whereas high school students are afforded the opportunity for enrichment through the Honors English classes and other individually designed activities.
